9000 Free Resources by Teachers for Teachers TES

  • TES
  • TES Resource Bank
  • Via Patricia Donaghy

TES?
The TES (Times Educational Supplement) is Britain’s leading publication covering the world of primary, secondary and further education, as well as the market leader for teaching job vacancies.

TES RESOURCE BANK?
"The TES resource bank (9000+ resources) is a place where you can share materials with other teachers and recommend your favourite teaching resources. TES makes it easy for you to upload and download files and direct other users to websites that you have found useful. Once registered, you are allowed to freely use the resource bank to download any useful material. Resources are divided into over twenty different categories. The ICT section, alone, has 270 resources!" - Patricia Donaghy

Also, if you want to find educational resources for English (1900+), or Modern Foreign Languages (1400+), I suppose this resource bank should provide you with plenty of options.

WHAT ELSE?
In addition to contributions from teachers sharing their home-grown resources, you can have fun swapping ideas, and letting off steam in the Staffroom. Yeah, there is even a Blogs section, plus reviews of books, software and other published resources.

Finally, you might want to check out the weekly TES Magazine, which is free with all editions. A full colour glossy covering teachers’ personal and professional lives, it contains primary and secondary sections with features about good practice, tips on how to teach, special needs and ICT – plus health, money and travel.

Great :)

How to Make a Photo Mosaic

I have to admit I am obsessed with these photo mosaics.  Ive given them as gifts for bridal showers, birthdays, and Christmas!  I also made one with all of the pictures from my wedding and had it printed on canvas and its hanging up in my living room looking absolutely fantastic!  Do you want to know the best part of all!?  Theyre actually SUPER easy to make!

I gave one of these as a gift to a coworker this Christmas and another coworkers first reaction was, "So youre making a tutorial for that, right!?"  So here it is... I added this option to the poll just for her... and it won the poll this week!

First things first, download the program here:

http://www.andreaplanet.com/andreamosaic/

Now its time to play along.  I promise its much easier than it looks!

Here are two versions of the mosaic for you to see close up.

This one has 1500 tiles:

This one has 5000 tiles:

All of your settings will depend largely in part on what pictures you use, so be sure to play around with the settings!

Ive been playing around recently with using Smart Notebook files on other types of interactive white boards, and I figured Id offer help for one of the whiteboards on the poll: How to open a Smart Notebook File on a Mimio board!

Becoming Creative Super Learners at IMU!

TALK SHOW

Imagine if you could read a 200-page book in 20 minutes? In today’s information overloaded disruptive world driven increasingly by innovation, we are required more than ever to transform the way we learn and think in terms of speed and creativity.

In this talk to IMU students (and anyone else interested), I will be exploring some of the things that we can do to stimulate and empower our brains and senses to be more focused, learn faster, and think more creatively.

I will also be introducing a learning facilitation method called Talk Show (New? Maybe, not sure!), which can make the learning process for especially large audiences more exciting and fun. This session wont be recorded, as this is the first time I am testing it out, and it might influence the students willingness to participate. Excited! More will be revealed in the coming days :)

PRESENTATION SLIDES

Here we go:

Becoming Creative Super Learners at IMU! from Zaid Alsagoff

This presentation only covers Level 1 of what a Creative Super Learner needs to master. Level 2 mastery skills are revealed here...

Please, remember that these Creative Super Learning skills are chunked based on how I am planning to develop the program over the next months, and not based on difficulty level (e.g. Blooms taxonomy) :)

How to Organize Your Life With Technology!

First things first, let me say that I am writing this post specifically for my lovely friend Katie, who just started her own blog!  Katie - youre going to love this app! :)

Kdots Learning Spot

Katie teachers 3rd grade in the same school as me and she is absolutely fabulous!  Ive considered changing grades just to be able to teach with her! lol!  She teaches 3rd grade and I teach Kindergarten... yet we can swap ideas easily and adapt them to our own grades.  And... shes great with technology, so you know she has my heart! LOL!  Be sure to check out her blog and follow her!

Now... for this weeks technology tutorial, which Im sure everyone is going to LOVE... how to organize your life with technology!

This option was incredibly popular on the poll!

Do you ever have that moment (of course, when youre in the shower or driving) where you say to yourself, "Oh I really have to remember to send that file to so-and-so." or "I need to remember to print that worksheet for tomorrow?"  That always used to happen to me... until I got this app!  (Okay, it still happens, but not if I use the app diligently!)

So... go download the app right now and start loading it up!  I promise you that it will help you feel more organized!  I swear to you, i even put things in the app like "Swap laundry." because Im so guilty of totally forgetting that I have a load running!

You can download this tutorial as a PDF by clicking this picture!
Note: This tutorial is hosted on Google Drive.  To save it from there, just open the file and click File > Download to save onto your computer!

For next weeks poll, Im going to add a similar option to this weeks poll: how to organize your files for the week to make life easier at school!
