Help Your Students Write Numbers!

Looking ahead to my September curriculum, one of our Kindergarten topics is Numbers 0-10.  I decided to revamp my current number posters and make them a bit fancier looking, and this was the result!  Im really pleased with how they came out!

I made them in color and in black and white, and in three different sizes so you can pick which set words best for you... the set is $2.50 at TPT.

I also made the borders myself, so keep your eye out for those in the near future!

One of the sizes is below... on a full sheet of 8.5" x 11" paper.

Another one of the sizes is below... with two labels on a sheet of paper.

Another option is to have four labels on a sheet of paper.

All three sizes are in color and black and white!  And I plan on creating another set for numbers 11-20 over the summer as well!  Enjoy!

How to Organize Your Life With Technology!

First things first, let me say that I am writing this post specifically for my lovely friend Katie, who just started her own blog!  Katie - youre going to love this app! :)

Kdots Learning Spot

Katie teachers 3rd grade in the same school as me and she is absolutely fabulous!  Ive considered changing grades just to be able to teach with her! lol!  She teaches 3rd grade and I teach Kindergarten... yet we can swap ideas easily and adapt them to our own grades.  And... shes great with technology, so you know she has my heart! LOL!  Be sure to check out her blog and follow her!

Now... for this weeks technology tutorial, which Im sure everyone is going to LOVE... how to organize your life with technology!

This option was incredibly popular on the poll!

Do you ever have that moment (of course, when youre in the shower or driving) where you say to yourself, "Oh I really have to remember to send that file to so-and-so." or "I need to remember to print that worksheet for tomorrow?"  That always used to happen to me... until I got this app!  (Okay, it still happens, but not if I use the app diligently!)

So... go download the app right now and start loading it up!  I promise you that it will help you feel more organized!  I swear to you, i even put things in the app like "Swap laundry." because Im so guilty of totally forgetting that I have a load running!

You can download this tutorial as a PDF by clicking this picture!
Note: This tutorial is hosted on Google Drive.  To save it from there, just open the file and click File > Download to save onto your computer!

For next weeks poll, Im going to add a similar option to this weeks poll: how to organize your files for the week to make life easier at school!

How to Get Your PowerPoint to Load on Another Computer Fonts Picture Modifications and All!

This weeks tutorial is one that a lot of people ask me about!  It can be so frustrating to make a PowerPoint on your computer at home, then head to your work computer and have all of your hard work with fancy fonts and giving pictures transparent backgrounds go to waste!

I do want to forewarn you that this tutorial does NOT copy over videos or sound effects, so those will need to be reinserted.  It also does not copy over transitions, as it flattens all of the images.  Outside of those items though, the PowerPoint will look just as it does on the computer you created it on.

Now... onto the tutorial!

You can download this tutorial as a PDF by clicking this picture!
Note: This tutorial is hosted on Google Docs.  To save it from there, just open the file and click File > Download to save onto your computer!

As for next weeks poll, Ill add something that is super helpful - how to figure out which fonts are missing from an editable file that you downloaded!

Download Did You Know 2 0 With YouTube Catcher For Your Class !

  • YouTube Catcher
  • Free FLV Player
  • YouTube Video - Did You Know 2.0
  • Via Jane Knight

YOUTUBE CATCHER?
YouTube Catcher is another tool that allows you to download YouTube videos easy and fast!

I am still wondering why YouTube does not allow users to download videos directly. It would probably take their software engineers approximately 5-10 minutes to add this feature, but something seems to stop them from doing it. Whatever it is, they are creating new business opportunities for innovative and entrepreneurial minds behind tools like YouTube Catcher. There are actually several such tools already available, including VideoDownloadx.com, which I have discussed earlier. In that sense (and AdSense) it is great for them. However, the moment YouTube enables us to download directly from their site; I suppose we will eventually have to say adios amigo to these tools. But, in the meantime we can enjoy them to do our stuff, although it is a bit more inconvenient.

HOW?
How do I do it?

  1. Alright, first find a YouTube Video you want to download, and then Copy and paste its URL into the form below (this is just a screenshot, so please click here to try it out for real! Do you think I am that stupid!).

  2. Then click the DOWNLOAD button to start. Please, REMEMBER to rename the file with a .flv extension (Why cant it do it for us! Oh man!).
  3. To watch the FLV Videos on your computer device, you need a FLV Player. Click here to download a free FLV player . In addition, you can also convert these FLV videos to other formats like avi, mpeg, mp4. And you can transfer these videos to cellphones or Ipods!

Interestingly, this cool and easy-to-use tool allows you also to convert your YouTube videos to MP3 files directly from the site, in the same fashion as downloading them. If you dont have time to watch your videos, you can at least listen do them on your Ipod (or MP3 player) while driving, or doing repetition work that requires no deep thinking!

DID YOU KNOW 2.0?
That was cool! Do you know of any videos that can engage my students (and educators!) to really think about their education and future careers before they graduate?

Alright, here is one video that I strongly recommend to download (URL: http://youtube.com/watch?v=pMcfrLYDm2U) using YouTube Catcher, or whatever tool/way you can.

This video is an official update to the original "Shift Happens" video from Karl Fisch and Scott McLeod. This June 2007 update includes new and updated statistics, thought-provoking questions and a fresh design. My mind is already reflecting about my future job possibilities!

So, if you dont have a good Internet connection in your classroom (or none at all!), it should not stop you from showing short (preferable below 10 minutes, unless super interesting!), engaging and relevant videos to spice up the students learning minds and facilitate discussions. Some students might be sleepy when they come to class, but a juicy YouTube video (You know what I mean!) might just be enough to warm-up their learning minds to actually participate. You probably just need to mention YouTube and Facebook in class, and students are already getting excited.

There are many things we can do to engage and inspire our students to participate and learn. Sometimes a relevant and exciting YouTube video can do the trick. Trust me :)

Use Backupify to Backup Your Social Media Stuff!

Backupify

"Backupify is an all-in-one archiving, search and restore service for the most popular online services including Google Apps, Facebook, Twitter, Picasa and more."

If you are looking for a tool to backup your social media stuff (Google Docs/Sites, Twitter, Blogger, Facebook, etc.), Backupify is a pretty cool tool. Though, you need to keep in mind that the free version is currently limited to 2GB storage, so the idea of using it for backing up for example your Gmail would also probably require you to invest in the commercial version, unless your Gmail account is below 2 GB (Very unlikely!!!!). Though, the current pricing is reasonable (Pro 100 version - $4.99/month), so it might be a good idea to consider such an option if your Gmail is critical to your work, studies and life.

Putting Gmail aside, I would recommend using the free version of Backupify to backup your blog, Twitter, and other social media stuff that are reasonably light. The free version does weekly backups of up to 5 accounts (e.g. Blogger, Twitter, Facebook, Google Docs, and Google Calendar). If you want to backup more accounts on a daily basis, then you need to subscribe to the commercial version.

If you are wondering how Backupify works, then watch this video tutorial:

Cool! But, are there better social media backup tools out there?

Or tools that enable you to backup unlimited social media accounts providing unlimited storage space? Now, that would be AWESOME :)

You can fix the following issue in your phone:

First try the Alternative Driver, which is the AutoInstaller. Just open the install.bat then it will automatically install the driver. Then proceed to flashing. If it did not work then proceed with VCOM driver that you had downloaded. Then install it manually follow the guide below.

Video Reference using Driver Auto Installer (watch in HD)

When installing it manually your phone must be turned off, then connect it to your computer/laptop while pressing VOLUME UP or VOLUME DOWN. This will detect and look for the driver.

For Invalid IMEI:Your Phone/Tablet must be rooted first
Restore yong IMEI in MTKDroidTools version 2.5.3. You will have this error when you format your phone in Flashtool as I had experienced. To restore download MTKDroidTools version 2.5.3 After you extract the file. Open the green robot, you must enable the usb debugging in your phone. It is usually located in Settings>Devoloper Mode then look for usb debugging. After enabling it. Connect your phone in your computer then in MTKDroidTool click on ROOT. Wait for it to finish, then Click in IMEI/NVRAM, input 15 number in each box. Then click REPLACE. Then click Reboot or you can manually turn off your phone. Then turn your phone on again. You can see that you have fully restored your IMEI.
